Union Springs overflows with history and beauty claiming some of the finest old homes in Alabama. Visitors may stop at each location, dial a phone number, and hear a local resident tell the historical significance about the site and, perhaps, even an unknown tidbit or two. The Bird Dog Monument stands on Prairie Street, honoring Bullock County members of the Field Trial Hall of Fame. Across the street is a beautiful Field Trial mural depicting a classic field trial scene.

The Bullock County Historical Society has worked to preserve the 1897 Pauly Jail, one of the oldest surviving jails in the state and one of a very few relics of its kind which gives us a glimpse of the darker side of the past.

Chunnenuggee Fair
Bullock County offers many parks and fishing lakes for outdoor recreation. Our finest and newest park, the
Wehle Nature Center offers 25-acres of hiking trails and opportunities to learn about conservation and the environment.

Our site also offers information on annual festivals held in our area. Annual events include the Chunnenuggee Fair (May), Veterans Day (November) and the Field Trials (November to March). The largest amateur dog trial in the nation is held each February at Sedgefield Plantation. For more information, check our Calendar of Events.

The central Alabama climate is excellent for year 'round outdoor Recreation. Bullock County has some of the best hunting and fishing in the South. Quail, dove, fox, turkey and deer are harvested.  Fishing nearby lakes has produced record catches of bass, bream and catfish.
