The Union Springs High School Reunion (Classes 1928-1970) was held Friday and Saturday nights and it was a great success. Over 400 gathered at the country club on Friday night. We had a great time at USHS class reunion Aug. 3-4, 2001. Classes from 1928-1970 were invited. Over 400 people attended. It was enjoyed by all.

I enjoy teaching at Bullock County High School. I am currently developing a Web Page for my students to use as a resource and I would like to add this site as a link. I am suggesting that you add employment information to this web site. Adding this information will help me work with students that are working towards the Alabama Occupational Diploma. This information will be useful to my students and easily accessed. I look forward to visiting this site again!

A Devoted Teacher.

It was nice to come across a web page for my home town while surfing for newspaper articles at work. The site looks great, and the pictures have helped me to show my new friends about my home town. Thanks! ~Leslie M. Cole.

Hello, I send you greetings from Montgomery, Alabama. I was just reading the Herald yesterday and learned that my home town of Union Springs has its own web page. I was so proud when I took a look, to see all of the pictures.  It really brought back memories of the time when life was simple. Before I close I would like to say keep up the good work and thanks for the memories.

I'm 1996 Graduate of Bullock Memorial School and I have since moved to Louisiana. I'm trying to get in touch with some of my classmates. If anyone who went to BMS remembers me, if you can help me get in touch with some of them I would really appreciate it.

I was born in Union Springs, I attended school at Perote and high school at Carver high. I moved to New Jersey in 1965. I really love my hometown. I am the granddaughter of Son Broaden and Mary Lee Broaden. My father is Sol Bethune, and I am hoping that by chance someone related to the Bethune family in all areas of the country. There are so many of us, that do not know who and where our families are! Please contact me for information about "The Broaden, Bethune Family Reunion" July 1-6, 2002 held in Union Springs, AL.

Greeting from Washington D.C., great to know that Union Springs is expanding and is doing just fine. This is my home town and I am a Graduate of Bullock County High School Class of 1978.

I currently receive the Union Springs Herald which keeps me updated of all current events and other neighborhood issues. I have a very loving Sister that is employed my the Bullock County Board of Education, Mrs. Barbara E. Calhoun, who also keeps me informed of all the good things Bullock County is doing. I always share my local paper with my co-workers here in D.C. and they find it so rewarding to know that I grew up in such a great and warm environment.

Union Springs, keep up the good work.  I'm looking forward to visiting my home town family (Sweetie Elder) this Thanksgiving. Job Well Done!

My parents were residents and sharecroppers in and around Union Springs prior to my birth in Columbus, Georgia. I had an opportunity in 1959 to attend school for my final semester there and graduate from Carver High which is now closed. I have a very special memory of Union Springs. There was a very nice lady who was a florist and worked out of her shop and home located on Chunnenuggee (hope I got that right!) Avenue. She created a most memorable corsage for my date who was overwhelmed at her concern and graciousness. I do not know her name, but she was the epitome of Southern Hospitality and a wonderful person! She made two young Black people extremely proud to wear her creations. She also made a boutonni?e...for me. Wherever I've gone, I have always remembered Union Springs. My roots are there and so are my most precious memories.

I was living with Margarite McCaslan when my son, Stan, was born in 1958. She had a large apartment in the back of her home and it had a large closet which we converted into a nursery. There was enough room for a cradle, chest, and single bed for the nurse. Margarite was the perfect lady for kinder and gentler times. I remember the atmosphere of Union Springs as being relaxed, comfortable and a return to the old gracious way of living. Ever since I was there, I miss not living in a town where you can walk to town in the afternoon (on a sidewalk!) to have a drug store coke and EVERYBODY knows your name!

I was just checking out the website for Bonnie Plants because I had just bought some plants from Wal-Mart in Thomasville, AL that came from Bonnie Plant Farm. I live in Sweetwater, AL which is about 14 miles northwest of Thomasville AL. Union Springs sounds like a nice place to visit someday.

Enjoyed the website. I am looking for genealogy information on William Howard Jenkins, who was my grandfather. I believe he was born somewhere in Bullock County, and was buried for a short time in a cemetery in Midway, although family later had his remains relocated to Phenix City. If anyone by chance reads this and would have any information, I sure would appreciate an email!

I am actually excited to see Union Springs' informative website -- my birthplace. My search is the result of a homework assignment. I am enrolled at the University of Phoenix in Jacksonville.

I am proud of my rich heritage -- granddaughter of the late Jim and Marie Ellis, Sr. of Cornerstone community and Bennie "Rab" Jackson, Jr. of Town Creek community. Also, great-granddaughter of Bennie "Ben Jack" Jackson who lived on the Field Trials plantation. My parents are Susie Ellis and Jim Ellis, Jr.

Prior to moving in 1972, I was employed at the Board of Education supporting Annie Mae Turner and Mary Arlington Oliver Jackson with coworkers Sanquanetta Jackson Thomas, Ollie Brown and Yuland McGown. Those were the days!

I visit my family and friends as often as possible and stay in touch with what's happening in and around Union Springs by subscribing to the weekly Herald.
