Hello Union Springs! In the summer of 2001 , my friend Ashley and I left a message on here about Hunter Gates and Michael Martino. Surprisingly Michael had gotten the message and called me back to thank me for not saying anything bad. Michael I'd never do that! Please keep in touch with me.

Hello from Florida! I was born in Union Springs, AL and I still have family there (Mahone, Youngblood, Davenport, Banks, & Baker), whom I visit frequently. I agree Union Springs is a nice quiet town. It's a place where you can breath fresh clean air, bask in the friendliness of it's citizens, and kick off your shoes and relax. Please keep it that way. It's perfect just the way it is.

I am a student here in Bullock County and I was very surprised to see this site. I just typed in Union Springs to see what would happen. I think that this site was very well constructed and that people from around the world that visit it will also enjoy it as well. Sincerely, Ashley Cooks Future Leader

I want visitors to know that these comments are really addressed! I posted a message that I had found a class ring for the year 1965, in Marietta, Georgia, early 70's. I grew to love this ring and wondered if someday I would return it to it's owner-WELL I DID! In October, 2002, I finally returned it to it's owner. A lovely lady, now in Midway, AL., thanks to this "Guest Comments" page. I want to thank, again, all the people involved. LaVerne Murray

The Inverness School reunion was well attended and a great time was enjoyed by those in attendance. There were about 275 registered for the event. Plans are to hold a reunion every two years. Thomas May

This is great! I was raised in Union Springs most of my teenage life until I moved to Detroit in 1979. Last November, I migrated back to the love of my life--the South, namely, Orlando, FL. I have some fond memories of Union Springs, South Highland and BCHS. And, not to mention the bus rides and jokes. It's good to see that you're keeping folks abreast of what's going on in town. I really missed the quiet that city life just didn't provide. Keep up the good work!

This is great! Does anyone from the class of 1965 happen to remember someone with the initials of "GA". I found a class ring back in the 70's, and have held onto it all these years. I would love to return it to the owner!! Identify the sex of the owner of the ring, and I will gladly return it to the owner. Please someone, find the owner for me. Thank you very much!

I've been coming to Union Springs Alabama for the past 20 years. I fell in love with the city. My in-laws (Curley and Adell Penick) are from Union Springs and upon retiring from the Miami-Dade County Public School system, I am planning to move to Union Springs and make it my home. Union Springs is the place to retire and live a good long life.

My group and I, Mike Watson & The Blue Bones performed at the Chunnenuggee Fair back on April 27, 2002 and had a wonderful time in Union Springs. The people were so nice and the town was wonderful. I want to send a special thanks to Christy Crowe for the invitation and hopefully we can do it again next year. Sincerely, Mike Watson

I am an out-of-town subscriber to the Herald. I love reading about the happenings in the area. I was not born or raised in Union Springs, however, each year since I can remember, my family would either ride the Humming Bird train or drive down to visit my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I am in my late 50's, and these trips had been taking place every since I can remember, and long before I started to school.

In 1976, my grandfather died and at that time, I announced that I would never return to Union Springs. I did not want to return because I did not want to be reminded of the blatant racism that my family had experienced on more than one occasion.

My first trip back was in 1992 when I accompanied my mother to Andalusia to take care of some family business. She asked to stop in Union Springs to visit with her niece and my cousin. It was during that visit, and out of boredom, that I entered the courthouse, introduced myself, and began my ancestral journey. Since that time, I have returned to do research almost every year. Each visit brings back new and pleasant memories and a spiritual reconnection with my family who lived, worked and died in Bullock and Barbour Counties.

Out of these frequent visits and research, I planned our first family reunion in 1999. This year, I am proud to say, that we will have our third reunion. This reunion will be held in Pittsburgh, PA, July 26-28, 2002. At that time, family members from across the country will come together to honor the memory of our African and American ancestors who chose to survive so that we may live to tell their stories.

To date, I have been able to trace our family history back to 1870 in Barbour County (Springhill area), and 1900 in Bullock County (Union Springs, Ridgeley, Midway areas). These family members include Elijah and Becky Davis, Dock and Catherine Dean, Charlie and John Ellen Hardwick Davis, Obie and Eliza Tabor Davis, and Harrison and Mandy Berry Tabor. All descendants and friends of the family are invited to attend. For more information contact E. Davis, P.O. Box 5707, Pittsburgh, PA 15208.

I have a class ring with the initials G.A. o n it that I found many years ago. I have just found it in a drawer today. It is a 1965 graduation, female ring. If you are the owner or know anything about the owner of this ring, please let me know. I also graduated in 1965, and would hate to know my ring was lost for all those years, I guess that is something else good about the internet. Thank you for any reply, LaVerne
