Good afternoon to Union Springs, born and raised in
Fitzpatrick, Al, highway 37 (Elder's Ridge) (Class of 78). Have
been away from home since my 18th birthday, also had the
opportunity to travel and learn several cultures in countries
such as Germany, Greece, Italy while serving our country in the
United States Army. Currently employed by the Federal Government
while residing in Arlington, Virginia and have been at this
location since 1985.
I have a very rewarding and strong family background. Most of
my family are currently residing in the Fitzpatrick, and
Montgomery area. It's great to know that Bullock county is
growing with all the positive things that are happening with the
school system, city and the surrounding areas. My oldest sister,
Barbara E. Calhoun is employed with the Bullock county Board of
Education for the last 25 or more years. She has always been my
eyes and ears along with the weekly issue of The Union Springs
Herald for all the good happenings within Bullock County and the
surrounding areas. She is the best sister any guy could ever
have along with our baby sister, Patricia. I'm really blessed to
have such understanding and wonderful sisters and brothers and
Alabama played a very big part in making this happen.
Best Wish All, friends, family in Bullock County. And please
feel free to drop me a line when in the Washington, DC area.
Love you ALL, Larry

I was born in Union Springs and attended school there (Carver
High). I left US in 1961 but always enjoy visiting my family who
still live there. My mother, Julia Hall was a long-time resident
there. I currently reside in Chicago -- work for the Federal
Government in Food and Nutrition Service (USDA). I am impressed
with your web-site -- very nice! My niece Cynthia Jackson told
me about it and I must say, I am glad she did.

Of interest to me would be history of Old Union Primitive
Baptist Church on High Ridge Road, between Union Springs and
China Grove, Alabama. Is this the original building and site?
When was it built? When were the last services held?

My Great Grandfather W. T. T. Boswell was born in Union
Springs, AL. His parents were Thomas Moses and Mary E. Terry
Boswell. They moved to TX in the 1870's. My parents and I
visited Union Springs about three years ago to do some family
research. We were lucky enough to find Mr. Dean Spratlan who was
very generous and helpful with his material. I hope to revisit
Union Springs in the future to find the location of the William
Boswell home and the burial site of William and wife Nancy.
Thanks for a great website. Linda McKinney, TX.

I am pleased to say that my family and I became familiar with
the Bullock County area in 1989 when my husband, Reverend John
Toney, accepted the pastorship at Rogers Temple Apostolic Church
of God in Midway. Our church members are all natives of Bullock
County and have made us feel right at home in Union Springs,
Midway and the surrounding areas. We live in Montgomery but
drive to Midway twice a week for services. The local churches
and pastors have opened their arms to us and visited with us at
our church on many occasions. Thank you to Bullock County
residents. Come by and see us at 1079 Old Troy Road in Midway,
just past the Merritt Elementary School. God bless.

Great website. Over the years I have known a few dog
trainers. I grew up in the Broomhill area of Manitoba where John
Gates of Leesburg Ga trained, as well as Colvin and Mazie Davis
of Farmersville AL. The Weddels of Florida also trained in the
summer in this area. It was nice to see people come up and train
dogs every year in the Broomhill area.

On October 18th my wife and I, along with four friends, were
passing through Union Springs on a motorcycle trip to the
Natchez Trace. We stopped at the Huddle House for coffee and a
bite to eat and, as usual, the members of our group never pass
up an opportunity to cut up with folks. Well, the ladies working
the counter decided to entertain us with their best acapella
rendition of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and a fine
rendition it was, too! We later stopped to visit your
Confederate cemetery and log cabin and, all in all, it was a
very pleasant, though brief, visit to your town. One of the
highlights of our trip had to be the singing waitresses of the
Union Springs Huddle House.

I loved growing up in a small town like Union Springs. Our
schools were great, our teachers were excellent, and it was neat
to know so many people. Most of my contact with Union Springs
now is through my brother Tommy, and The Herald, because I live
in Sanford, MI (near Saginaw). It would be great to hear from
some of you. My husband, son, and I are serving the Lord at

I love this web site. I've visited it often over the years
but never bothered leaving a comment. My parents and siblings
still live in Union Springs and it will always be near and dear
to my heart. My dad (Charles (Jab) Hudson) was the Sheriff for
several years until his retirement. I do try and visit Union
Springs at least once a year and I usually succeed.
I graduated from Bullock County High in '76 and I still have
a few classmates and lots of friends in the area. Keep up the
good work. My only regret is that the site doesn't update that
often and there aren't more pictures, I've got a few that I'll
gladly contribute. I understand that the work is time consuming
but judging from the previous comments a lot of people including
me are very appreciative.

HI, I am a MAY also and my dad also made a mean run of shine
in his day also here in eastern Kentucky, sad thing he never
taught none of us boys how to make it. His was very much in

grain corn. Where is your product sold or where could I buy a
couple bottles ? I am not a drinker but would like to have some
because of the family name, since I am a family historian and
genealogist on the MAY family in Eastern Kentucky. Jonah May
