Bullock County will pay special tribute to all
of the courageous men and women that have worn the uniforms of
the United States Armed Forces on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2006.
This 13th annual Veterans Day ceremony will be
held at the Richard B. Stone National Guard Armory, located on
U.S. Highway 82, east.
The Tourism Council of Bullock County sponsors
the event. John McGowan is chairman of the Veterans Day
committee and Kim Graham is serving as co-chairman.
McGowan pointed out that, the change in location
of the ceremonies, from the Bullock County Courthouse and/or the
Red Door Theatre, to the armory will allow for the accommodation
of handicapped individuals. There will also be sufficient
parking at the armory.
McGowan and other members of the Veterans Day
committee are spreading the word that veterans of all wars and
conflicts are to be included in the 2005 activities.
McGowan has requested that veterans begin arriving at the
armory by 10 a.m. and begin registering for the Roll
Call of Honor.
This will also provide the opportunity for
reunions and a social time for the veterans.
During the period of registration there will be a medley of
songs popular during the war years from World War 11 to the
present. Ted Youngblood will provide the renditions.
The Bell Cook Hopson Ladies Auxiliary Post No.
337 will open the USO Canteen with refreshments. The ROTC
units of Bullock County High School will post the colors and act
as hosts and hostess for the event.
Businesses have been asked to place a tribute of
their choosing in the windows or on their buildings.
School children of Bullock County have also been asked to enter
a poster contest with the winners receiving recognition. The
winning posters will be on display at the armory.
All citizens of Bullock County are encouraged to
contact veterans now living outside of Bullock County to inform
them of the ceremony and encourage them to attend.
